Dopper
November 7, 2024

Let’s face it: packaged water is a joke. It's literally water wrapped in plastic that’s been shipped halfway across the globe, when you have perfectly good stuff flowing right at home. Switching to tap water is the small, everyday revolution the planet needs—and it's free. Here’s how to drink more tap water without even thinking about it.

First Things First

Who wouldn’t want to drink more of this wonder liquid that carries nutrients and oxygen to your cells, aids digestion, normalises blood pressure, and more? But how much should you drink? Well, that depends on many factors, like gender, age, and fitness level. The general suggestion is for men to drink 3,7L every day, and women 2,7L. Want a more specific number? 👉 Water calculator

  1. Water Goal

It’s alright if drinking water doesn’t come naturally just yet. Why not work yourself up to it? We made it easy for you to keep track of every step. On day one, start slow, like with one 580ml Dopper bottle. Make sure it’s finished by the end of the day. Then the next day, try moving up to two, then three, then four. Before you know it, your Dopper is emptied out and you'll find yourself walking to the tap to refill. It all starts with the first sip.

  1. Bottle = Reminder

Find yourself losing track of time and, in turn, your water goals? The bottle can serve as a reminder. Pick a bottle with a little personality (your Dopper, perhaps👀), so it sticks out in your environment and makes you happy to carry around every day. Then, make sure you put it on your desk at the start of the day. So, you can reach for it throughout the day every time you spot it when looking up from the crunch. 😉

  1. Set Water Reminders

Whether you like to use alarms, notepads, sticky notes, or a pen on your arm, reminders are always helpful. Set an alarm to remind you that it’s time to drink water. You can also tie it to another regular pattern in your day: getting up from your desk — refill; taking out the dog for a walk — refill. The routine is already there, now you just have to tie hydrating to it. A routine we all share is sleeping 😁. If you set a glass of water on your nightstand and finish it entirely when you wake up, you get yourself into the habit of starting your day with hydration. Plus, it balances out that sweaty night of sleep – it’s a win/win situation.

  1. Carry the Bottle Everywhere

Sometimes your bag or hands are full, but it's important to bring your bottle to keep yourself hydrated throughout the day. So, why not try our carabiner? Just clip your bottle to your bag, pants, or even overalls 🎒. Another great way to remember is to keep your bottle with your keys, as we expect you don’t often leave your house without them. Bringing your own reusable bottle instead of buying packaged water saves you time, energy, and, of course, money.

  1. Hydrate Before You Hydrate

Love a glass of wine after work? Enjoy a soda during lunch? Here’s a little trick: drink a glass of tap water before. Not only will it help balance out the effects of coffee, wine, or soda, but it also sneaks more water into your day without you even realising it. Plus, if you’re going for tap water first, you reduce the odds of reaching for something else. Keeping the free and healthy option as your main drink.

  1. Get Vocal About It — Group Project

Want to really change your tap water habits? Start talking about it. Get people excited about hydration and make it a little competition. Accountability can help, so why not start a hydration challenge with your friends. Keep each other on track and updated, and before you know it, your competitive spirit takes over and you'll find yourself hydrating to prove a point 😜.

  1. Add some Pizzazz

Let’s be real, sometimes plain water can be a little… boring. So, feel free to explore and heighten the experience. Add a handful of frozen berries, slices of cucumber, or a dash of lime juice to your tap water. Suddenly, you’ve got yourself a refreshing drink that feels like a treat. And unlike flavoured bottled water, this is 100% guilt-free. In the summer, you could even freeze chunks of fruit into ice cubes, which brings a lovely taste and a lovely look to your water. Where Am I Supposed to Find that Water?

Great question! At home, the simple answer is from your tap. Grab a bottle when you wake up/return home, fill it up in the kitchen, and go about your day with the bottle in hand. Grabbing a snack? Refill your bottle. Lunch? Bottle. Dinner? Bottle. We could go on, but you probably get the gist.

What if you’re out and about, you ask? Well, do you know the concept of ‘frequency illusion’? It is when you learn something, and then you randomly start to spot it everywhere. There are a lot, and we mean a lot, of water taps out there. Not sure where? We actually have a water tap map to help you out. Use our link or simply search for ‘water tap’ on Google Maps.

Once you’ve trained yourself to see just how many taps are out there, grab your bottle when you spot a tap outside. Not empty yet? Maybe take a few sips and refill it. (Half) empty? Even better! There’s a tap right there to top you up.

Final Thought: Tap Into It

The world doesn’t need more packaged water. It needs more of us making the easy, everyday choice to drink from the tap. And the great thing is, once you build these habits, drinking more tap water just becomes a part of life. Start small and work your way up, you’ll be making the sustainable choice before you know it. Cheers to that! 🚰
