Dopper
January 20, 2022
Wavemakers are people we at Dopper decide to highlight because of their contribution to the fight against single-use plastic.

There are two main aspects Onemeeting.com take into consideration. That is being conscious of social choices and the human-to-human aspect. Which is why culture development within the company plays a big part. Sustainable in the sense that employees stay long term, grow together and have energy for the job. So how does Onemeeting.com make sure their employees don't lose their energy? They run the company on family values.

The other aspect is all about social choices. Sustainability in a meeting management company is also about CO2 emissions. They make bookings for large corporations, organisations, institutions, and government departments. The question raised very early in the process was about the footprint of the products and services they sell. The answer was to calculate the CO2 footprint and offset the emissions, which led to a strategic alliance with Groen Balans (Green Balance), to research the emissions.

Plastic-free meetings and signing The Wave

So how does this link to Dopper? Well, as meetings go, our CEO Virginia met Luc at surprise, yes, a meeting and our goals aligned. Luc mentions, "The Dopper Wave was close to our ambitions". Luc signed the Dopper Wave on behalf of Onemeeting.com, meaning they have banned single-use plastic from their company, but that's not all. The platform offers plastic-free meetings. That's right. You can opt for a 'single-use plastic free' meeting by selecting it in the 'refine your search' options. And just like that, no more single-use plastics in your meetings. Huzzah! (enter cheer squad) Imagine all the unnecessary single-use plastic that won't be used and discarded after your next meeting.

The next step

The next step is for the 2000+ locations linked to the platform to join as a plastic-free location. This means Onemeeting.com can offer their customers even more locations that are ditching single-use plastic. Luc mentions, "this is what customers are looking for, especially government organisations, and even more corporate organisations. They are asking if can we offer them on a national level, a group of locations that are working on water taps and no single-use plastic?"

Individual responsibility can make a positive difference

Luc predicts sustainability is going to a more individual level. People have the power to decide whether they buy single-use plastic or not. Individuality which he explained, has always been seen as something negative. In this case, it could be positive only if everyone realises their individual power, without any social pressure around it. He says that's where the difference can be made. This is what Luc is hoping for, a change in the individual's mindset, and he thinks "that's where Dopper comes in to lead us".

To end with some inspiration for the future. Luc says, "That's why the Dopper Wave is an excellent platform for change". We at Dopper couldn’t agree more. People signing a pledge to ban single-use plastic bottles is a win for all involved, including the environment. He predicts that companies that do not positively contribute to society will have a tough time. Here's hoping for more eco-conscious mindsets when making decisions. Read more about it in Luc van Bussel's blog.
